KEDATON TEMPLE probolinggo


Kedaton Temple is one of the unique temples that made of Andesit stone. This temple built about the end of XIV century is unique temple with beautiful scenery around. It is located in 60 km to south of Probolinggo at Argopuro valley.

The summary of Garudeya story has carved on its relief. The location of this Hindu building is in Lawang Kedaton sub-village, Andungbiru village, Tiris district, Probolinggo regency. The temple sized 6 meters square and has year signed on its stair, 1292 saka (1370 A.D).
Kedaton temple has 33 relief on the temple's feet. Beside Garudeya story, some relief are told about legend story, such as; Arjunawiwaha and Bhomakwya. The other relief story has not known yet.

Garudeya story described in three relief. Two relief published by Bernet Kempers in 1959 in his famous book, Ancient Indonesian Art. One relief is the scene of Eagle open his mouth to eat residents; the other relief is the scene of Eagle say thank you to his mother.

The small Kedaton temple seems has big attractive value of its relives. Bernet Kempers published the other two relives that described about legend of Bhomakawya. "A Very Emotional Scene", said Kempers to a relief that described Samba, Khresna's son, visit Princess Yajnavati before he fight with a Giant soldier.

Beside Bernet Kempers, Balai Arkeologi Yogyakarta (Archeology Center In Yogyakarta) consider the important of Kedaton temple relives as the source about flora and fauna, and also the source about ancient Java fashion. Those are described on the relives and has documented in 1997.

JABUNG TEMPLE probolinggo


The other Probolinggo tourism that we can find is Jabung temple, which becomes one of ancient and historical heritages in Probolinggo. It is located in Jabung village, in Paiton district. Jabung temple was made by red stone with 13,11 length, 9,58 m, 15,58 m height. There are also some relief panels, which its story is not surely known yet. GUNUNGGANGSIR TEMPLE pasuruan


The temple is located as gunung Gangsir village, Beji subdistrict. The temple is unique and interesting because the material of this temple was made of brick that’s well arranged.

Formerly, this temple was known as “Keboncandi” temple, on account of the location of the temple is in Gunung Gangsir village, so the local society call it Gunung Gangsir Temple.

This temple is also commonly visited by tourist who interesting in historical temple. Otherwise, Gunung Gangsir Temple is one of Pasuruan historical temple.

BELAHAN TEMPLE pasuruan


The cultural tourism attraction located on the slope of Mount Penanggungan, in Wonosonyo village, Gempol district, Pasuruan regency. JAWI TEMPLE pasuruan


This temple is a holy building of Hinduism and Budhism that has built in 1300 AD by Kertanegara, the last king of Singasari Kingdom. It is located at Candi Wates village Prigen subdistrict on the way Tretes Pandaan, it’s about 40 minutes drive from Surabaya. The height of this temple is about 24,50 meters with the length 14,20 metres and 9.50 metres wide.

Jawi Temple is one of Pasuruan historical temple that has a unique form. This temple is an old temple in East Java that build for remain the last King of Singasari.

The temple also said as the last rest place of the King before he finally died. There are many visitor have visited this temple to pray, have meditation activity, or just show its unique form and relief.

NGETOS TEMPLE nganjuk


Lor Temple is located in Candirejo village, Loceret district, Nganjuk regency, about 3-4 km to south from Nganjuk city. Lor Temple was built by Mpu Sendok as his sign of his war with Melayu in the year of Saka 859 or 937 M. Phisically, this temple has broke because it is very old. Its height is 9,3 m and made from red bricks. There are some statue, which found in this temple, such as; Ganesha and Nandi statue. Know on, in the west side of temple, there are two statue Ganesha and Siwa Mahadewa, which both of them have no head anymore. In the west side of the statue are Lingga and Yoni, which also has broken. There is also two grave that believed by the people around as Yang Karta and Yang Kerti (the Mpu Sendok server) graves. From that finder above, it can conclude that Lor temple has Siwa characteristic.

NGETOS TEMPLE nganjuk


Candi Ngetos located at Ngetos village, Ngetos district about 5 kilometers to the south of Nganjuk town. There is an inheritance from the year of 859 Saka or 937 Masehi. This inheritance was made from the red bricks. On that place, Anjuk Ladang, the ancient inscription was also found. Near to this place, there is an historical ancient inheritance that was known by Candi Ngetos. According to the historian, based on that temple form, this temple has made in XV century (Majapahit era). Phisically, this temple has broken and it can not identify anymore. It leave the main of the temple, that has four relief.

This temple is believed as Hayam Wuruk (the famous King of Mojopahit) grave. At that time, he want to be buried in a place which stay in front of the Wilis mountain. This area is one of Mojopahit part. Then Hayam Wuruk has an idea and asked his uncle (the King of wind) named Raden Condromowo and titled Raden Ngabei Selopurwoto, to built the temple. He also asked his uncle to buried him in this temple if he had die. The society around also believe that in Ngetos, there was twin temple and called Tajum temple. But one of them was bigger than the other. It was said that the Hayam Wuruk grave was in the temple that was gone.

SIMBATAN TEMPLE magetan

MANDARA GIRI TEMPLE lumajang

PLUMBANGAN TEMPLE blitar


Plumbangan Temple is located near to Wlingi district, in the middle of Plumbangan village, Doko district. Actually, this site is not a temple, but a gate similar to Jedong temple. This temple lettered built in 1312 (1390 A.D). This site has entrance and trapezium roof. At first sight, Plumbangan temple looks like Niche that pinch the entrance of Kidal temple.

SAWENTAR TEMPLE blitar


Sawentar Temple is located at Sawentar village, Kanigoro district, to the east of Blitar. The temple shows similarities in form to Kidal temple. A tentative date of around the early to mid 13th century has consequently been assigned to it. The base of the temple lies several meters below the present ground level, a result of having been buried under a mass of lava, presumably from an eruption of nearby Mt Kelud. The site was excavated during the early years of this century. This temple seems reside on a pool. At first found, the temple had covered by mount dust.

Sawentar temple is also called as Cungkup temple. A small yoni pedestal lying within the temple's central chamber depicts a figure of Garuda, suggesting that the monument was dedicated to the god Wishnu. PENATARAN TEMPLE blitar


Penataran is the largest and most important Hindu temple complex in East Java. It lies just 10 Kilometers north of Blitar on the lower slopes of Mt. Kelud. SUMBER AWAN TEMPLE malang


Sumberawan Temple that located in the foothills of Mt Arjuna to the north east of Malang, is one of a Buddhist statue in East Java. Dating from about the end of 14th century or beginning of 15th century, this site has been identified with Kasurangganan, or 'the garden of the heavenly nymphs', which is mentioned in the Nagarakertagama as having been visited by King Hayam Wuruk of Majapahit in 1359.

Sumberawan temple is located about 1 kilometer of Singhasari temple gateway, which in Hindu style. To reach Sumberawan temple, the visitors should walk on a path between rice field and river through 500 meters of roadway of Sumberawan village. It surrounded by nature panorama and has natural water source. It said that the water of Sumberawan pool has great energy for health. Some visitors always take a bath in this pool. They don’t want to pass it.

The temple is in Buddhist style and formed a statue without any accessories. Temple’s body is rectangular and contain of two parts. The temple is one of beautiful temple in East Java, because of its location. Every ‘Waisak’ (Buddha Holiday), Sumberawan Temple is visited by many Buddhist to celebrate the life of the Buddha. They usually come in the evening and having meditation.

SINGOSARI TEMPLE malang


Singosari temple, also known as Kendedes temple, was founded in honor to King Kertanegara, the last king of Singosari dynasty who died in 1292 AD. It was erected in 1300 AD at the same time when the ritual Sradha took place. In the vicinity of the temple there are two gigantic statue called Dwarapala, believed to be the entrance guards to the palace.

This temple has saved the historical story that always remember by Malang public. However, Singosari temple is a symbol of the existence of Malang regency from years ago.

As the other East Java's temple, Singosari temple is formed from red bricks and arranged in cone building, called temple. This temple also has beautiful relief that describe the great of Singosari Kingdom years ago.

KIDAL TEMPLE malang


Kidal temple is located in Rejo Kidal village, Tumpang district, about 24 km away to the East from Malang city. The Real height of the temple is 17 meters, but now it's just 12,4 meters. Kidal temple is one of Malang's historical temple that save history value. The temple base has a shape square. The door is one in west side. Above the door of the temple, there are "Kepala Kala" (Head of Giants) and lions. The temple was decorated using ornaments, which depict Mahabharata story not in sequence.

Visit this historical temple in Malang regency and watch its unique form that become the interesting point of Kidal temple.
